We usually hold one or two raffles per year as part of our fundraising effort. In the past we've raffled rock tumblers, baskets of glass floats, and a beach-themed handmade quilt.

To start off 2018, we offer the prize of an 18" x 24" print of Nancy Taylor Stonington's watercolor "Morning in Valdez."

Raffle tickets are $2, or 6 for $10. Only 200 tickets will be sold, and the drawing will be held when the ticket supply runs out. Proceeds will be shared between Coastal Interpretive Center and North Beach VFW Post 8956.

A graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, Nancy Taylor Stonington left a Ph.D. program in physical geography at the University of Colorado in a move that ended in Alaska in 1971. She taught geography at the Community College in Sitka before turning to art full time. Her preparation was in cartography, drafting, and scientific illustration.

Of this piece Nancy says “The scene I painted is the view of Valdez you see as you head into town by road from … about 1 mile out… It was a foggy fall day and only parts of the mountains were visible. It’s one of my favorite morning views of Valdez.”

Nancy’s work has been published and is sold in galleries throughout Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Colorado, including the Seattle Stonington Gallery, a nationally known gallery for Northwest Coast art. She continues to paint from her studios on Vashon Island and in Sisters, Oregon.
