We are looking for someone who is energetic, outgoing, friendly, and welcoming to fill a part time position as a Damon’s Outpost Bookstore Clerk and Docent. The bulk of the hours will be during the summer season (Memorial Day to Labor Day), but will offer opportunities to participate in education programs and other events. DAMON’S OUTPOST BOOKSTORE CLERK AND DOCENT
POSITION DESCRIPTION
General Responsibilities
- Greet visitors and provide information on the Center; accurately interpret Center exhibits as they relate to coastal ecology and history.
- Follow employee policies and procedures including, but not limited to:
- Daily tasks
- Weekly tasks
- Prepare Damon’s Outpost for daily retail business; at close of business, balance the daily revenue receipts and secure funds in the Center safe.
- Function as the team leader with volunteer docents.
- Assist with volunteer coverage by calling volunteer docents when there are no shows or extra help is needed
- Maintain daily visitor contact record.
- Assist with the preparation and upkeep of interpretive exhibits and displays.
- Assist with Coastal Interpretive Center participation for special events.
- Assist with oversight of day-to-day Center operations. This includes ensuring Center facility and grounds are clean and organized, and maintenance needs are identified.
- Participate in meetings and training scheduled for Center staff.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to think creatively.
- Professional and friendly attitude, highly motivated and accountable.
- Ability to serve effectively as a team member; with good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact appropriately with volunteers, staff, and visitors at all levels.
- Possess valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass Washington State Patrol background check.
Desired Qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of the ecology and history of the coastal environment as it relates to the exhibits, programs, and activities of the Center.
- Basic technology skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs and Outlook.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
Vaccination Requirement
The Coastal Interpretive Center requires all Damon’s Outpost Bookstore Clerk & Docent and Volunteer Docents to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Being fully vaccinated means that an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. As a condition of employment, newly hired employees will be required to provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination on the first day of work.
Probationary Period
Docents work under a probationary period of one month. At the end of the probationary period the employment relation with the Coastal Interpretive Center is terminable at will for any reason by either party.
Hourly Pay
$16.28/hr
